The AIPAD photo show is in town this weekend. This year it is a MASSIVE show at pier 94, a pain to get to but pretty wonderful once you are there. I always find a few things I'm interested in. This year one of my favorite smart photographers, Dan Estabrook, has made another phenomenal leap forward. Honestly he is so smart. He seems to always find and aesthetic way to push the envelop of the antique processes and imbue them with new meaning. Here's the most beautiful one that Catherine Edelman Gallery had on display. It's hard to see this in the virtual copy but the image is actually pieced together with the mirror&frame and the copper "slug" being completely separate pieces. I'm honestly stunned. I've seen plenty of tintypes but none that so gracefully try to break the mold.
